Navigationally Challenged

 8/18/22:  Greetings from the parking lot of Walmart in Logan,UT. As described in my previous post I've had a lot of difficulties with Google Maps and GAIA (GPS software on my phone that I've used for years).

This AM when I left my gorgeous lakeside

 campsite at Grand Mesa I was counting on Google and GAIA to guide me through the labyrinth of FS roads that go to the dozens of lakes only,  the software kept doing weird things.  G Maps, which worked fine the day before, suddenly could not label streets,  lakes, even cities.  The streets were there but no labels.  GAIA kept freezing, allowing me to blow past my turns.  I spent about 45 minutes trying to get back on track.  I had cached Maps for both of them because there was no reliable service.

I finally asked G Maps to take me back to Montrose and I blindly followed its commands.  A lot of road construction was going on and one spot was being prepared for gravel to cam down the mega muddy condition t was in.  My truck slipped and slid but it was all downhill and it worked out.  I then realized G Maps was taking me down the wrong side of the Mesa, meaning I either go back up the tough mudder and into the labyrinth or come up with a new plan.

BTW, I fished several ponds but never got a bite.  Watched an osprey grab one of the trout I was stalking.  Bald Eagle visited the lake I had all to myself but I didn't see him catch any fish.

I set my cached new Maps for Flaming Gorge but could not get G Maps to zero in on Dutch John campground so I eyeballs a nearby town (Logan) and set off for the six hour drive.  Navigational challenge once again set in and I discovered Logan is a whopping 4 hours from Dutch John.  Time to boondock in Walmart's parking lot and reconsider in the AM.

Paula and Ben can attest to my sudden lack of navigational acumen.  I was useless trying to work with the paper map of tiny Telluride  and its 20 or streets.  Scares the crap out of me.
