June 28, 2023:
Howdy, I will start my 2023 western expedition on Friday June 30. I intend to reach Zanesville, OH where I'll boondock at a Walmart supercenter parking lot. Probably Desmoines, IA the night after that.
I should reach the Pike National Forest by July 3 and will fish the South Platte River and some of its tributaries for a few days.
On 7/6/23 I plan to arrive at my son Brian's house in Conifer, CO so that we can install a new set of leaf springs on my Tacoma pickup truck. That will hopefully prop up some of the sag the Habitat "topper" is putting on the rear suspension and take some of the roughness out of riding over rough roads.
Overall, the plan is to extensively tour Wyoming: Wind River, Medicine Bow and , Bighorn ranges. I hope to visit the Little Bighorn battleground, walk some of path Lewis & Clark took, fish the Miracle Mile and see dinosaur tracks in Thermopolis. With any luck, my brother Alan and son Brian will join me for a week of fishing at the end of August in the Bighorn mountains. Brian and I may do some hunting in early September.
