Fished the Colorado River in Byers Canyon this AM. As before, zero rises. I tried a fuzzy bown nymph-ish thing I'd seen in a video and presto! 14 inch brown trout. That was it for the session. Very fast current so. I didn't wade it.
Incredible campsite last night in the Arapaho NF. Top of a nibble had been cleared of trees. 270 degree view of mountains, lakes etc. All spoiled by heavy smoke from wildfires. Even the stars were muted by nearly full moon and smoke. On a clear night it must be dazzling . Coyote pack howled and yipped just before dawn.
The descent to Byers Canyon on FS 253 was a complete terror. Deep galleys carved into roadbed and super steep grades with loose rock made for white knuckle 4WD experience. I needed every feature the Taco offered. Not repeating that route anytime soon.
Remind my brother Alan that nymphs DO NOT WORK except when they do.
