Camp Grenada

I camped at a site off of Magalloway Rd  near Pittsburgh,  NH on the advice of the guy at the Orvis fly shop in town.  It was free and I didn't get in trouble for it.

I set out for the section of CT River that connects 2nd CT Lake to 1st CT Lake.   Bushwhacked from RT 3 to a footpath that follows the river but it turned out to be a gorge with thundering class 3 rapids.   I walked the path for about 1/2 mile and found a likely spot.  Caught an 11 inch salmon and several fry.  The next 200 yards downstream looked too fast so I beat it back up to the Taco.

Time to check out the Magalloway ND Swift Diamond Rivers though a serpentine extension  the Magalloway Rd.  About 10 miles into it, TPS says I have low pressure.  I hop out and all looks well.  Moments later I had to wait for a logging truck which was being loaded.   Walking back to the Taco I could clearly see rear passenger side was flat!

Ruh roh, I've never actually changed a tire on the Taco.  Broke out the jack and tools.  I figured out how to lower the spare but had a lot of trouble freeing it from the chain hanger thingy.  About then. The logging guy, who was by himself, saw I was struggling and offered to help.  Mostly, I wasn't sure how much height the jack could give but he coached me through it.   Okay, so maybe he also put the tire on the lugs cause I was having trouble lifting it and maybe he had wooden blocks that allowed repositioning the jack so it didn't slip and crush me and maybe he showed me I could use the tools to operate the jack W/O being under the truck.

He was a huge help!!  Very grateful as I was 15 miles from the nearest paved road and 50 miles from a tire shop.  I beat it down to Berlin. NH just before closing time.  They took me right in and fixed the flat.  Something sharp pierced the Kevlar tire, dunno what.  Whew, glad that's over.  So, I'm camping about five minutes from LL Cote.  Yes the counselors hate the waiters, and Lake has alligators.  My site is right next to the river along with a gazillion skeeters.
